Summary of the story

In a textile factory at the close of business hours, an employee named Esther bid farewell to her superior, Paul. Subsequently, she encountered the silhouette of a peculiar woman with claw-like hands in the absence of light, but the figure vanished when the lights were switched on. Later, Paul also encountered the same woman, and in his attempt to flee, he locked himself in an office. Unfortunately, he met his demise when the lights went out.

Some time later, Paul's son, Martin, witnessed his mother, Sophie, conversing with an entity in the dark. Sophie noticed Martin and comforted him, but as Martin returned to bed, he observed a strange figure lurking in the shadows behind Sophie. Fearing for his safety, he locked himself in his bedroom. Shortly thereafter, Martin began experiencing difficulty staying awake in school. The school nurse was unable to contact Sophie, so Paul's stepdaughter, Rebecca, was summoned to the nurse's office. A Child Protective Services agent questioned Rebecca about Martin's living conditions, and she disclosed that Sophie was taking antidepressants.

Martin confided in his sister that their mother had been conversing with a woman named "Diana." Rebecca reassured him that Diana was not real and that she had also heard their mother talking to an imaginary girl when she was a child. Upon arriving at Martin's home, Rebecca confronted Sophie about her failure to take her medication. Sophie retorted that Rebecca had no right to lecture her since she had also abandoned her, just like Rebecca's father. Questioning her mother's sanity, Rebecca took Martin to her apartment, much to Sophie's dismay. That night, Rebecca was awakened by the same shadowed woman that had killed Paul. She narrowly escaped an attack by turning on the lights, causing the woman to vanish. The following morning, Rebecca discovered the name "Diana" scratched into her floor, along with a stick figure drawing. She recalled finding the same name and drawing as a child and realized that Diana was indeed real.
