Summary of the story
In a flashback sequence, it is disclosed that Dr. James Marcus, the founder of the Umbrella Corporation, had a daughter named Alicia who was suffering from progeria. In a desperate attempt to save her, Marcus seizes an untested embryonic project of the Umbrella Corporation, created by his colleague Dr. Charles Ashford, known as the T-virus, and administers it to Alicia and other patients with the same ailment. However, after one of the treated children dies and transforms into a zombie, Marcus immediately orders the termination of the project, destruction of all data related to it, and forbids Ashford from pursuing it further, causing Ashford great distress as he needed the T-virus to save his own daughter, Angela. Marcus's partner, Dr. Alexander Isaacs, arranges for Marcus's assassination by Albert Wesker, adopts Alicia, and takes over the Corporation. Alicia inherits 50% ownership of the Corporation from her father.
After being betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C., Alice regains consciousness and is informed by the Red Queen that she has 48 hours to infiltrate the Hive, a facility located beneath Raccoon City. The Umbrella Corporation has developed an airborne anti-virus that can eliminate all zombies, but is waiting for the last few remaining humans to be eradicated. As Alice's body carries the virus, she does not anticipate surviving the mission.
While en route, Isaacs captures Alice and reveals that the "Isaacs" she had previously killed was a clone. Alice manages to escape from his convoy and arrives in Raccoon City, where she encounters a group of survivors consisting of Doc, Abigail, Christian, Cobalt, Razor, and Claire Redfield, who had survived the attack on Arcadia. Isaacs' convoy approaches, followed by a swarm of zombies. Alice and the group successfully defeat them and rescue Isaacs' few human captives, although Cobalt perishes in the process. Alice and her team enter the Hive, where Wesker is in charge. He unleashes mutated guard dogs, resulting in the deaths of Christian and a freed captive.
