Summary of the story
During her childhood, Diana participated in an athletic competition on Themyscira against adult Amazons. However, after being knocked off her horse, she took a shortcut and remounted, but missed a checkpoint. As a result, Antiope removed her from the race for cheating, emphasizing the importance of obtaining anything worthwhile honestly. Diana's mother, Hippolyta, advised her to be patient in her pursuit of glory and honor.
In 1984, Diana was employed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., where she secretly performed heroic deeds as Wonder Woman. Barbara Minerva, a new museum employee and a shy geologist and cryptozoologist, struggled to gain recognition from her colleagues but found a friend in Diana.
The FBI approached the museum to identify stolen antiquities from a robbery that Wonder Woman had recently foiled. Barbara and Diana noticed a Latin inscription on one artifact, the Dreamstone, claiming to grant the holder one wish. Although neither took the inscription seriously, after Diana saved Barbara from an assailant by secretly using her powers, Barbara wished to be strong, sexy, and cool "like" Diana, unintentionally acquiring the same superpowers. Meanwhile, Diana yearned for Steve Trevor, her lover who had died heroically, and he was resurrected in another man's body, leading to their reunion.
