Summary of the story
In 1998, three years subsequent to the annihilation of Cyberdyne Systems, Sarah and John Connor retired to Livingston, Guatemala. They were unexpectedly ambushed by a T-800 Terminator, one of several dispatched through time by Skynet, which terminated John despite Sarah's endeavors to impede it.
In 2020, an advanced Terminator, the Rev-9, was dispatched back in time to Mexico City to assassinate Dani Ramos, while a cybernetically enhanced soldier, Grace, was dispatched from 2042 to safeguard her. The Rev-9, disguised as Dani's father, infiltrated the automobile assembly plant where Dani and her brother Diego were employed, but was thwarted by Grace, who escaped with the siblings. The Rev-9, utilizing its ability to divide into its cybernetic endoskeleton and shape-shifting liquid metal exterior, pursued them, terminating Diego and cornering Grace and Dani. However, Sarah arrived and temporarily incapacitated both forms of the entity using military-grade weaponry.
Dani, Grace, and Sarah retreated to a motel. Sarah disclosed that she located them because in the years since John's demise, she had received encrypted messages detailing the locations of incoming Terminators, each concluding with "For John," enabling her to eliminate them before they became threats. Grace observed that Skynet and John do not exist in her future, signifying that Sarah succeeded in destroying the former after Cyberdyne became obsolete. Nevertheless, humanity's future is imperiled by another AI called Legion, initially developed for cyberwarfare, which was constructed in Skynet's place. When Legion became a menace to humans, an attempt was made to neutralize it with nuclear weapons, resulting in a nuclear holocaust and the AI creating a global network of machines to terminate the human survivors, who organized a resistance movement to counter Legion's onslaughts, and Dani's destiny is linked to their war against it.
