Summary of the story
In the year 2029, John Connor, the leader of the Human Resistance, launched a final offensive against Skynet, an artificial general intelligence system that aimed to eradicate the human race. However, before the Resistance could achieve victory, Skynet activated a time machine and dispatched a T-800/Model 101 Terminator to the year 1984 to assassinate John's mother, Sarah. In response, John's trusted ally, Kyle Reese, volunteered to travel back in time to protect her. During his journey, Kyle witnessed an attack on John by another member of the Resistance, resulting in a temporal paradox that altered the timeline and caused Kyle to experience childhood memories from an alternate version of himself.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles in 1984, Skynet's T-800 was disabled by Sarah and "Pops," a reprogrammed T-800 sent by an unknown party to protect Sarah in 1973 after her parents were killed by a T-1000 dispatched by Skynet. When Kyle arrived in 1984, he was confronted by the T-1000, which Sarah and Pops destroyed using acid. Sarah and Pops had constructed a makeshift time machine similar to Skynet's, and Sarah intended to travel to 1997, the year Skynet became self-aware, to prevent its emergence. However, Kyle realized that the timeline had been altered and was convinced that the future had changed as well. He recalled a warning he had received in his childhood vision, persuading Sarah that they must instead travel to 2017 to thwart Skynet's plans.
