Summary of the story
In contemporary London, a group of construction workers have made a remarkable discovery: the tomb of a crusader knight interred with an Egyptian ruby in AD 1127. Meanwhile, in Iraq, U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton and Corporal Chris Vail have stumbled upon the tomb of Princess Ahmanet, who, in ancient times, attempted to summon the deity Set and was subsequently mummified alive by Egyptian priests. Unbeknownst to them, the soldiers and archaeologist Jenny Halsey transport Ahmanet's sarcophagus to Britain, inadvertently resurrecting her.
During the flight, Chris is possessed by Ahmanet through a spider bite and attacks his companions, only to be killed by Nick. A swarm of crows attacks the plane, causing it to crash and killing everyone except for Jenny, who manages to escape with a parachute provided by Nick.
Nick awakens in a morgue, having seemingly survived the crash. However, he soon learns that he has been cursed by Ahmanet, who seeks to use him as a vessel for Set. Ahmanet's mummy escapes from her sarcophagus and begins to feed on humans to regenerate her body, transforming them into zombies. She retrieves the Dagger of Set and attempts to stab Nick, only to realize that the ruby is missing. Ahmanet and her army pursue Nick and Jenny until they are subdued by soldiers.
