Summary of the story
An elderly couple was traversing through the rural landscape of Florida when they were tailgated by an old truck, which eventually overtook them. They witnessed the driver of the truck placing what appeared to be a body wrapped in a blood-stained sheet into a large pipe protruding from the ground next to an abandoned church. The truck then caused the couple to veer off the road, prompting them to turn back and investigate the pipe, only to be met with a ghastly sight.
In the year 2021, Chase and Laine, a couple belonging to the millennial generation, embarked on a journey to attend the Horror Hound festival situated in the rural regions of Louisiana. Chase, an ardent believer in the paranormal, held a particular fascination for the local urban legend of "the Creeper", a creature that emerges every 23 years for a period of 23 days, during which it preys on and consumes hundreds of individuals before vanishing. Unbeknownst to Chase, Laine believed herself to be pregnant and the couple had plans for Chase to propose marriage to her during their trip. Meanwhile, the Creeper awakens and begins to feed, seeking to augment its strength. While stopping at a gift shop, Laine experiences a premonition upon touching a mysterious artifact. The proprietor, Lady Manilla, provides the couple with cryptic messages. Later, at the hotel, Laine attempts to take a pregnancy test but is interrupted by a crow that crashes into the window. The couple then proceeds to the festival.
