Summary of the story
Five years subsequent to the events of the initial film, Jonas Taylor has been actively engaged in combating environmental offenses while simultaneously assisting Mana One in exploring a more profound section of the Mariana Trench, where the Megalodon was discovered. Following the demise of Suyin Zhang, Taylor has been nurturing her adolescent daughter Meiying, alongside her uncle and Suyin's brother Jiuming Zhang, who has inherited his father's company, in conjunction with wealthy financier Hillary Driscoll. Mana One has also been studying a female Meg named Haiqi, who was discovered as a pup and trained by Jiuming in a reserve in Hainan. Recently, Haiqi has been exhibiting erratic behavior, causing Taylor to become apprehensive, despite Jiuming's enthusiasm.
Taylor and Jiuming lead a routine submersible exploration to the Trench, with Meiying clandestinely accompanying them to witness the trench for the first time. Fellow Meg survivors DJ and Mac observe the group from Mana One. While descending, the subs are pursued by Haiqi, who had escaped captivity the previous night. The subs dive down through the thermocline to evade her, but Haiqi forces her way through it regardless. Two significantly larger Megs, a colossal alpha male and a slightly smaller beta male, appear and mate with Haiqi. While devising an escape plan, Taylor and his team discover an illicit mining operation in a station commanded by a mercenary named Montes, who harbors a grudge against Taylor for his previous incarceration. Driscoll had covertly hired Montes' crew to exploit Mana One's access to the trench to extract rare earth minerals that could generate billions. Montes kills his crew in an explosion to conceal their activities, which results in a rupture in the trench, grounding both Taylor and Jiuming's ships.
