Summary of the story
In the year 3600 BC, the venerable yet potent mutant En Sabah Nur governed over ancient Egypt. After undergoing a ritual that involved transferring his consciousness into another individual's body to acquire his healing abilities, En Sabah Nur and his four adherents were ambushed, resulting in the demise of his followers and his entombment while still alive.
In 1983, Alex Summers brought his sibling Scott to the educational institution of Professor Charles Xavier, with the hope that Xavier and Hank McCoy would instruct him on how to regulate his mutation that enabled him to emit optic beams. During his time there, Scott encountered the telepathic and telekinetic Jean Grey, and the two developed a romantic interest in each other.
En Sabah Nur was roused from his slumber by a group of worshippers. He formed a bond with the orphan Ororo Munroe and gained insight into the nature of humanity. Concluding that humanity had lost its way, he devised a plan to reconstruct the world. Munroe became his disciple after he augmented her powers.
In East Berlin, the shape-shifting mutant Raven discovered Kurt Wagner, a mutant with the ability to teleport. Raven enlisted the services of black marketeer Caliban to transport Kurt to America. En Sabah Nur recruited Psylocke and Angel and amplified their abilities.
