Summary of the story
Simultaneously with the occurrence of Skyline, Mark Corley, a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, assists his estranged son, Trent, in securing his release from prison, just as an extraterrestrial invasion commences. A significant portion of the city's populace is abducted by a blue light and taken aboard various spaceships. Mark leads a group of surviving humans through subterranean subway tunnels in an attempt to escape, but the majority of them are either killed or taken captive. The survivors, consisting of Mark, Trent, transit operator Audrey, and a homeless man known as "Sarge" (who is immune to the blue light due to his blindness), flee to the marina following the city's nuclear destruction, only to be abducted into the alien flagship.
On board, Mark endeavors to locate his son and forcefully enters various chambers, where he encounters survivor Elaine and her transformed husband Jarrod (from the first film). Elaine explains that Jarrod retains control of his mind despite being transformed into a bio-mechanical alien soldier. Although Elaine is only three months pregnant, her pregnancy has accelerated, and she gives birth to a daughter.
Elaine perishes during childbirth, and Mark and Jarrod collaborate to destroy the ship by planting alien explosives within the control systems. When Jarrod is killed while battling the alien leader, Mark rescues Audrey but is unable to save his son. Trent's brain is extracted and placed inside another bio-mechanical machine creature of alien origin. The dying Jarrod destroys the ship, which crashes in rural Laos.
