Summary of the story
Whilst en route to the hospital to visit his daughter Xixi, who is suffering from leukemia and whose condition has deteriorated to a critical state, Hong Kong Special Agent Lin Dong is apprised by his colleague Xiao Su that Dr. James, a crucial witness, is in peril. Lin halts his vehicle outside the hospital, deliberates momentarily, and subsequently departs to rendezvous with Xiao Su and their team.
Prior to the team's arrival, Dr. James self-administers a chemical substance and brings along a mechanical heart. As the team escorts him away, they are ambushed by a group of individuals donning exotic black armor and wielding advanced weaponry, led by a monstrous-looking man named Andre, who eliminates most of the team and inflicts severe injuries upon Lin Dong and Xiao Su. Before Andre can apprehend Dr. James, Lin Dong pins him against an oil tank using his vehicle. When Andre survives the impact, Lin shoots the oil tank, resulting in a massive explosion. Lin is left gravely injured and receives a phone call from Dr. James informing him that Xixi has passed away at the hospital. However, both Lin Dong and Andre are later revealed to have survived, although Andre's injuries have resulted in his transformation into a cyborg.
Thirteen years later in Sydney, Australia, author Rick Rogers has recently published a book entitled Bleeding Steel, which chronicles the story of a US Marine implanted with a mechanical heart. A young man named Li Sen, disguised as a female prostitute, visits Rogers at his hotel, drugs him, and downloads information about the book from his computer. A woman dressed in black storms the building and tortures Rogers to divulge the source of his inspiration for the book. Whilst Li Sen hides in the suite's bathtub, Lin Dong arrives to uncover the same information. The Woman in Black kills Rogers, and the arrival of the police forces everyone to retreat.
