Summary of the story
Earth, along with numerous other planets, was established by families of transhuman and alien nobility with the intention of harvesting the resulting organisms to create a youth serum for the elites on other planets. Following the passing of the matriarch of the House of Abrasax, the most influential of the alien dynasties, her offspring - Balem, Kalique, and Titus - engage in a dispute over the inheritance. Balem inherits a colossal refinery on Jupiter, while Titus spends his on an extravagant spaceship.
Jupiter Jones recounts that her father, Maximilian, met her mother Aleksa in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After Maximilian's untimely demise in a robbery, Aleksa names their daughter Jupiter, after his favorite planet, and they relocate to Chicago to reside with Aleksa's family.
Years later, Jupiter earns a modest living as a housekeeper for her affluent neighbors. Desiring to purchase a telescope, Jupiter consents to sell her egg cells and utilizes her friend Katharine's name as a pseudonym. While at Katharine's home, Jupiter and Katharine are assaulted by extraterrestrial "Keepers." Jupiter captures a photograph of them, but they erase both women's memories of the incident. Jupiter discovers the peculiar photograph on her phone while waiting at an egg donation clinic, but cannot recollect anything about it. During the procedure, the medical staff is revealed to be Keepers dispatched to assassinate her, but she is rescued by Caine Wise, a former soldier sent by Titus to retrieve her. As Caine and Jupiter flee, their spacecraft is destroyed by a squad of Keepers. Caine repels the attack, eliminates the Keepers, and commandeers one of their vehicles while safeguarding Jupiter. Caine realizes that Jupiter must be of great significance to Titus and Balem, who are disclosed to have dispatched the Keepers to Earth to capture her. Caine transports Jupiter to the hideout of Stinger Apini, another former soldier living in exile on Earth. After discovering that she can control the bees in Stinger's abode, Jupiter realizes that she is of galactic royalty.
