Summary of the story
As a young girl, Nora Tidemann was instructed in the mythology of Trolls and the origin of their local mountains by her father, Tobias. During one such tale, Nora experienced a vivid vision of the faces of trolls turned to stone in the rock face.
Years later, a drilling operation that was tunnelling through the mountains of Dovre resulted in an eruption that claimed the lives of several workers and protestors. In search of answers, the Norwegian government enlisted the expertise of a diverse group of scientists, including Nora, who had since become a paleontologist and made her first significant discovery. While the scientists initially believed that the eruption was caused by the miners hitting a pocket of Methane, only Nora and the prime minister’s advisor, Andreas Isaksan, pointed out that the region was surrounded by large impressions that appeared to be footprints. The prime minister granted permission for further investigation, and Norwegian military soldier, Captain Kris Holm, was enlisted to assist when a second incident occurred miles away, resulting in the destruction of an elderly couple's home near Lesja.
Nora began to suspect that a Troll may be responsible, and the three sought the assistance of Tobias, who had lost his professorship due to his belief in the existence of mythical creatures. After a brief search of the mountains, Tobias identified a topographical anomaly, and the four inadvertently awakened the slumbering 45 m (148 ft) Troll, which had been camouflaged on the mountainside. They managed to escape, capturing the first tangible video evidence of Nora's theory. The prime minister arranged a military operation led by Kris, but conventional weapons proved ineffective against the troll. Tobias attempted to communicate with the creature but was killed when it was startled by gunfire. After researching the mythology, Nora recommended a sonic attack using church bells, but it only served to enrage the creature, causing significant collateral damage. Following the rampage, the story gained international attention and was broadcast globally.
