Summary of the story
Gorr and his daughter, Love, the last surviving members of their race, are enduring a harsh existence in a desolate desert. Despite their fervent appeals to their deity, Rapu, Love tragically succumbs to her plight. The Necrosword, a weapon capable of slaying gods, beckons to Gorr, leading him to Rapu's verdant domain. However, Rapu cruelly ridicules and dismisses Gorr's predicament, prompting him to renounce his faith and prompting Rapu to strangle him. The Necrosword presents itself to Gorr, who uses it to vanquish Rapu and vows to eradicate all deities. Gorr is bestowed with the power to manipulate shadows and summon monsters, but is cursed with impending death and corruption under the sword's influence. After Gorr eliminates several gods, Thor, who has joined the Guardians of the Galaxy following the Avengers' battle against Thanos, receives a distress signal from Sif. Thor arrives in New Asgard to find Foster wielding Mjolnir, and together with Valkyrie and Korg, they join forces to confront Gorr. Although the group manages to thwart Gorr's initial attack, he escapes with several Asgardian children whom he imprisons in the Shadow Realm. The group travels to Omnipotence City to seek the aid of the other gods in creating an army. However, Zeus, the leader of the gods, is reluctant to assist, believing that they can remain concealed and protected from Gorr within the City. He also doubts Gorr's ability to achieve his stated objective of reaching the realm of Eternity, where he will be granted one wish, presumably to annihilate all gods. As a precautionary measure, Zeus orders the group's apprehension to prevent them from divulging the City's location to Gorr. When Zeus injures Korg, Thor impales him with his thunderbolt
