Summary of the story
During a Little League Baseball game in the small fictional town of Millbroke, New York, the Abbott family, comprising wife Evelyn, husband Lee, deaf daughter Regan, and sons Marcus and Beau, along with other spectators, bore witness to a peculiar meteor-like object hurtling towards the Earth. Shortly thereafter, hostile extraterrestrial creatures emerged from the meteor and commenced a massacre of the townspeople. These blind creatures possessed armored skin, extraordinary speed and strength, and tracked their victims with hypersensitive hearing, attacking anything that made noise.
Over a year later, the creatures had decimated much of the Earth's population, including Lee and Beau. Regan had discovered that high-frequency audio feedback made the creatures vulnerable and devised a makeshift method of transmitting the noise from her cochlear implant through a portable microphone. With their home destroyed, the family embarked on a search for other survivors. While entering a fenced-off area, Evelyn inadvertently triggered a sound alarm, alerting the creatures. As they fled, Marcus stepped into a bear trap, attracting a creature with his screams. Regan and Evelyn managed to kill the creature, free Marcus, and seek refuge in an abandoned steel foundry.
