Summary of the story
During their vacation at a lakeside cabin, Teresa and Jessica, who are cousins, along with Jessica's boyfriend Caleb, were subjected to a horrific incident. Jessica, seemingly unwell, scalped Teresa and decapitated Caleb before levitating above the lake.
The day prior to this incident, Beth, a guitar technician, visited her sister Ellie, a tattoo artist and single mother to teenagers Danny and Bridget, along with her child Kassie, at their residence in Monde Apartments, a condemned Los Angeles apartment complex. While the children were in the basement parking lot, an earthquake shook the building, revealing a concealed chamber. Danny investigated the chamber and discovered religious artifacts, three phonograph records from 1923, and a peculiar book that he took to his room, intending to sell it and use the money to assist Ellie. The first record detailed the priest's unsuccessful attempts to research the book, which was revealed to be one of three volumes of the Naturom Demonto. The subsequent record revealed that the priest continued his research in secret and recited an incantation that summoned demonic entities known as Deadites.
